Mr. Carlton is also an avid golfer and takes every chance he can to get out on the course.
Professional Journey
Mr. Carlton brings 23 years of experience in education and leadership to his role as Superintendent of Schools for RSU 18. He began his career as an Educational Technician before becoming a Special Education Teacher, Special Education Director, Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent. In addition to his work in education, he also served for two years as the City Manager of Gardiner. Throughout these diverse experiences, one lesson has remained constant for Carlton: there is always something new to learn.

Carlton is excited to join RSU 18 and looks forward to learning alongside staff, students, and families. He is especially eager to spend time in school buildings, seeing the work of educators and staff firsthand. He believes deeply in the perseverance and dedication it takes to work in education, recognizing that every person in a school community—no matter their role—makes a difference in the life of a child.
Message to the RSU 18 Community
Superintendent Carlton shares his gratitude and admiration for the educators, staff, and families of RSU 18, who continue to dedicate themselves to improving today and shaping the future for students. “The thought itself is noble, but the reality is that each of you does more than think about it each day—you live it. From the bottom of my heart, thank you,” he says. He looks forward to partnering with the district community to build on RSU 18’s tradition of excellence.
