Meet Keith Morin, Assistant Superintendent of Schools and Chief Academic Officer of RSU 18!
Personal Background and Motivation
Mr. Morin’s inspiration to pursue a career in education stems from his belief that education is a powerful tool for success. Growing up, he was fortunate to have teachers and staff who challenged him to think critically while fostering a lasting curiosity for learning. Witnessing the impact of dedicated educators on students’ lives has motivated him throughout his career. In addition to becoming a teacher, Morin sought leadership roles to collaborate with staff in being innovative, creative, and supportive, ensuring every student has access to a high-quality education regardless of background or circumstance.
Career Path and Leadership Journey
Mr. Morin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from the University of Maine at Farmington, where he discovered a passion for teaching. After a decade in the classroom, he transitioned into leadership roles as an Assistant Principal and Principal for another ten years, focusing on cultivating positive school culture, enhancing student learning, and supporting staff with curriculum delivery. He later earned a Master of Education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine, which led to Superintendent Certifications in four states. For the past eight years, Mr. Morin has served as Assistant Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer for RSU 18, where he collaborates with educators and administrators to strengthen educational outcomes and ensure academic excellence for all students.
Education and Innovation
For Morin, one of the most fulfilling aspects of working in education is being part of a system that prepares students for both academic success and life beyond graduation. He finds joy in watching teachers and staff grow professionally and in seeing the many ways they connect meaningfully with students.
Mr. Morin emphasizes that academic excellence and social-emotional learning go hand in hand. He believes that students achieve their best when they feel safe and supported, and that resilience, empathy, and adaptability are as important as academics. In RSU 18, data is used to monitor both academic performance and students’ social-emotional health, allowing the district to identify areas of need and adjust strategies to help all learners thrive.
Supporting teachers and staff is also central to Morin’s role. He works to provide a wide variety of professional development opportunities, including workshops, mentorship programs, and collaborative meetings that promote shared learning. He also believes in recognizing and celebrating staff accomplishments, both within their schools and across the district, highlighting the collective achievements of Maine’s fourteenth largest school district.
Personal Insights
As a new school year begins, Mr. Morin encourages students to embrace every moment of their educational journey. He reminds them that success comes not only from academics but also from personal growth, resilience, and meaningful connections with others. He urges students to take risks, ask questions, and explore new interests that may shape their futures. To families, Mr. Morin expresses deep gratitude for their continued support and engagement. Their partnership with teachers and the district is invaluable in creating the best possible outcomes for students.
