Raising Readers at RSU 18: The Scarecrow

Join Ms. Gastia, of Williams Elementary School, as she shares the precious autumn story, The Scarecrow by Beth Ferry!

As always, we are giving away a copy of the book to one lucky district student who participates in the extension activity! To be entered into the district drawing, follow the steps below:

1. Listen to the story.

2. Email communications@rsu18.org a photo of your child’s chosen extension activity! Submissions are due by Wednesday, October 29th!

Extension Activity – take your pick from one of the following options:

1. Write an acrostic poem about scarecrows. Remember, an acrostic poem is where the first letter of each line spells out a word – in our case: scarecrow. The entire poem’s content should be about scarecrows! Don’t forget to illustrate in the bottom corner!

2. Write a friendly letter to Scarecrow offering encouragement, asking questions, or reflecting on the story!

3. Using natural materials (twigs, grass, leaves, yarn), build a small nest. Then test (gently) whether your nest can support a small weight (e.g. a bean). Send a photo of your creation to communications@rsu18.org!

Happy reading, RSU 18! #WeAreRSU18 #RaisingReadersAtRSU18
