Raising Readers at RSU 18: The Boy Who Grew a Forest
Join Mr. Morin, Assistant Superintendent of Schools at RSU 18, as he shares an inspiring true story called The Boy Who Grew a Forest by Sophia Gholz!
As always, we are giving away a copy of the book to one lucky district student who participates in the extension activity! To be entered into the district drawing, follow the steps below:
2. Email communications@rsu18.org your child’s response to the extension activity below. Submissions are due by Wednesday, April 29th.
Extension Activity: Choose one of the following activities.
- Habitat Builder: Design a habitat showing animals that might live in a forest. Include food, water, and shelter in your depiction. In writing, explain why forests are important to our world. You may create your habitat using a shoebox or this printable to illustrate your ideas.
- Nature Poetry: Write a nature-inspired free verse poem to connect to Jadav’s experiences of growth, perseverance, and caring for the Earth. Don’t forget to illustrate your poem!
- Jadav’s Forest Diorama: Using a box, create a barren land on one side of the box and a thriving forest on the other. Use natural materials such as sticks, leaves, and paper to help bring your diorama to life showing the transformation that took place over Jadav’s lifetime!
Happy spring reading, RSU 18! #WeAreRSU18 #RaisingReadersAtRSU18
