Medieval Fair for District Gifted + Talented Students

Students in the elementary Gifted and Talented program brought the Middle Ages to life recently when they researched roles, wrote epic poetry, and performed in character at a Medieval Fair at the James H. Bean School.

Peasants and bakers, armorers and blacksmiths, a knight and a plague doctor, a jester, a spice merchant, a cheesemaker, a carpenter, a princess, a king, a troubadour, an embroiderer, and a priest all told tales of bravery and everyday life. Their troubadour led them from “village” to “village” to simulate how people lived, learned, and entertained.

The unit opened with role-playing and reading. Then students picked roles, researched, read examples of epic poetry, and finally turned their research into poems. They brought those poems to life through a dramatic performance that shared information about guilds, skills, battles, and of course, dragons! #WeAreRSU18
